Working for a Line-Haul Contractor, with 100% Drop and Hook, No-Touch Freight
FedEx Ground, as some may recognize its former name by, began as Federal Express when the company was incorporated in 1971. The first overnight packages began delivery in 1973 through their FedEx Express airline service.
In 1998, FedEx purchased Caliber System to complement its existing business. In 2000, FedEx rebranded Caliber System as Fed Ex Ground. Over time, FedEx created a new industry offering express door-to-door services, and grew to offer ground freight including FedEx Ground, FedEx Freight, FedEx Custom Critical, FedEx P&D, and other company divisions such as FedEx Office and FedEx Supply Chain.
In 2024, FedEx rebranded their name once again, bringing it back to its’ original name, Federal Express Corporation.
Federal Express Corporation has been ranked by the World’s Most Admired Companies as the No. 17th ranked company overall. In 2023, Transport Topic’s Top 100 For Hire Carriers listed Federal Express Corporation No. 2 under the No. 1 UPS. The year 2024 also marked the 24th consecutive year Federal Express Corporation has been ranked in the top 20 companies on Fortune’s list, while also retaining its’ position as the highest ranked delivery company.
The consolidation of all FedEx transportation and divisions into Federal Express Corporation in 2024 was aimed at optimizing routes, improving efficiency and productivity, improving logistics, and improving customer service. The reputation of Federal Express Corporation continues to thrive, when in 2025, a multi-year agreement was established between Federal Express Corporation and Amazon to provide residential deliveries. This followed UPS significantly reducing its Amazon delivery volume due to profitability concerns.
The Establishment of FloMac Transportation
FloMac Transportation was established in 2018 as a FedEx Ground Line Haul Contractor starting with two drivers. Line haul contractors provide a different role from that of P&D (pick-up and Delivery) contractors; line haul contractors manage the long-distance transportation of trailers between FedEx terminals, while P&D contractors handle local pick-up and delivery of packages.
In the last seven years, FloMac Transportation, based in Columbus, MS, has significantly grown their driver team, adding contract service providers in five additional locations across four states. Under Linehaul Management Services, you will find FloMac Transportation serving Columbus, MS, Olive Branch MS, and Birmingham, AL; Freight Logistics GA serving Atlanta, GA, and Sonic Express serving Nashville, TN.
The expansion also led to the growth of their management team and administrative functions to a full-scale operation. The administrative team, with over 120 combined years of management experience, comprises broad talent with expertise in managing and leading people, teams and organizations, operations, customer service, coaching, teaching, communications, marketing, sales, recruiting, occupational health, safety and compliance, human resources, project management, program development, commercial motor vehicle driving, and LTL Open Deck freight.
Not all Line haul contractors are the same. While they all are required to operate under Federal Express Corporation’s contract model, there can be many variations in their operational scale.
Factors include the size of the company, what cities the routes are owned in, the types of runs they have, management experience in the transportation industry, operational efficiency, the ability to train, communicate effectively, and maintain the highest safety standards, and what their driver retention track records looks like.
With a high level of collaborative communication, a comprehensive onboarding and continual safety education program at the forefront, an excellent compensation package, a culture of committed and dedicated professional drivers, and low turn-over, Linehaul Management Services has been able to effectively deliver and meet their vision and mission for their team and families.
